Assignment #8: Final Project
For your final project, you have to option to create one of the following: movie poster or an album cover or a graduation invitation.
Option #1: Original Movie Poster
You will need to create an original movie poster. You cannot take an existing movie poster and add to it. The plot, title, and poster need to be your own creation. You can use any resources or celebrities that you find on the internet.
Send me a short synopsis or write-up of your movie plot with it. Nothing long. 3-4 sentences so I have an idea of the direction and idea you had in mind.
Keep in mind that your movie poster should convey some sort of a message or a story, and that the elements in the poster should contribute to genre (comedy, drama, horror, etc.) of your movie.
Other things to remember when designing your movie poster): (Source)

bonus points if you send me a short synopsis or write-up of your movie plot. Not necessary, but it may help focus your idea and it would be fun! :)

- Memorable
Like a good logo design a poster should be something that you remember. - Striking
It often helps to add a key point that catches the viewers eye and pulls them in and it also helps that it is a unique design. - Concise
The poster should communicate the message clearly with good typography. - Intrigue
As mentioned previously this double take approach does wonders. - Informative
It is important to get the key details across like the title, date and possibly the actors. Along with making sure this information is laid out ordered and logical. - Space
There are a lot of action blockbusters which try to squeeze as much as possible into the design and for some this approach does work but requires more work to make it effective in order to focus your eyes correctly on what is being presented (usually done like Eagle Eye where the colours break up the 2 actions scenes and it still comes across as an effective message). Though, for the more artistic designs, a good amount of spacing works wonders. - Audience
Make sure you think about your target audience when you are preparing your design.

Option #2: Original Album Art
For the album cover, you photoshop cover art (similar to some found on 8tracks.com) that depicts a certain message or theme
8tracks.com is a site that allows users to create personal mix-tapes or fanmixes and share them with other listeners. These mixes often have some sort of a theme to them. For some play-mixes, it is a soundtrack dedicated to a certain TV shows or movies and the characters in them.
Often, they have photoshopped album covers to go along with their mix that represents the theme or the message.Remember a title for your mix (sub-title description is optional).
Just a reminder the cover should be square. You may design an album cover for a play-mix. (Brownie points if you actually put together a play-mix and send the track list along with the cover)

Things to Consider
- Keep in mind that if you are going to printing out, you need to start your canvas on the correct size. Otherwise, there may be some distortion later as you try to fit your image to a certain size.
- Consider if you are going to print on photo-sized paper (4"x6") or whether it will be a regular sized sheet (8.5"x11").
- *Remember to leave a gutter space (white space around the edge) so it doesn't get cut off when it gets printed.
- Keep it simple. Simple designs are much more eye-catching. Too much detail makes it too cluttered.
